AC hopping with DC’s Free Museums

What’s Cooler Than Getting Cultured?

All of a sudden, we’re experiencing immense empathy for the blue crab; it’s August in the DMV, we’re absolutely steam-cooked. And let us tell you something, it does not feel good. Cooling down at the pool? Less of a refreshing escape, more of a chlorine-heavy version of heatstroke. Even the most chilled-out edible isn’t hitting like it used to (and that, friends, is the real tragedy).

But whining isn’t getting us any cooler. So instead of melting on our collective couches, let’s head somewhere with AC. That also happens to be free.

Save your cash for what really matters (your weed budget, duh) and treat yourself to a gloriously baked museum field trip, for the low, low price of $0 admission.

AC + 10mg = The Perfect Summer Day

One of the best parts of living in D.C.? World-class museums that are completely free. From art, history and science to zoos and botanical gardens, there are literally over fifty free cultural attractions in this city.

Sure, our taxes are up there: we’re talking top three highest taxed states. So free is all relative. And all the while we spend most of the year too busy not overheating to pay much attention to the fact that this city is practically overflowing with publicly accessible art and culture. Throw a stone and you’ll hit a classic.

And speaking of stones, there’s nothing better than enjoying the classics while stoned … especially when said classics are housed in deliciously AC-filled institutions.

While you could spend the rest of August on a daily tour of free things to do in D.C., let’s start with some of our favorites. And to get into the summer spirit, why not kick off the day with a Sour Watermelon Sativa Gummy. 10mg, a 65°F adventure, and things are looking good.

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History: How does it feel to look straight into the swinging trunk of a 13-foot-tall African bush elephant, 10mg deep? Well, go find out. It’s about as close as you’ll get to Night at the Museum without the exhibits actually coming to life. Time travel to Ancient Egypt, gaze into the jaws of a megalodon, or get lost amongst a herd of bison. All well staying extremely cool. And extremely baked.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum: OK, so you’re already lifted, or, perhaps even blasted off. Perfect. Let’s start with the moon and go interstellar from there. Begin at Destination Moon with Armstrong’s Apollo 11 spacesuit, then gallery hop straight into deep space with SPHERES.

National Gallery of Art: We’re big fans of high art, and even bigger fans of high art while high. So much so that we have a whole blog about the science behind why getting baked is a great way to view art. And when it’s free? Even better. So start seasonally, with the Dear America exhibit, and work your way back to the classics. Da Vinci? Veneer? Monet? And Rembrandt? Probably best to make a full, AC-blasted week of it.

National Museum of African American History and Culture: In the mood for some high fashion? Or maybe it’s a music kind of day. Abstract art, Civil Rights, the legacy of black colleges… Welcome to the world’s largest museum dedicated to African American history and culture. Yep, this is another one that’s more of a multi-week summer exploration than a one-day affair.

Museum of Fine Arts Washington County: OK, we get, not everyone lives right in the heart of D.C. Fair enough. And lucky for you, the free fun isn’t just within the district lines. We’ll say it again, there’s no better combo than fine art + cannabis. And with the Mucha exhibit here for the summer, don’t blame us if it’s the security guards escorting you out at last call.

Your August “Starter Pack”

You’ve got a big day ahead. And big cultural exploration deserves at least some minor prepping. The usuals; water bottle (from metro to museum is essentially a mini sauna sesh), snacks (for obvious reasons), and, of course, the most important element for getting into the high culture mindset. The right edible for your adventure.

We’ve already thrown out our top choice; the 10mg sativa that will keep the adventure-mode going with an added hit of some serious giggles. For the experienced consumer looking for that little extra punch, double down with a 20mg Pink Lemonade Gummy.

Prefer to keep the blast-off for the Air and Space Museum? That’s fine too. Our 5mg Sundrop Sours will boost the wonderment up to ten while keeping gravity at its standard 9.8.

Edibles aren’t your thing? We get it. May we suggest a nice deep pull from our Peppermint Patty Vape? The perfect sendoff for a day of tapping into your highest (cultured) self. Or for those who like their cannabis to take a more coffee-adjacent role; presenting Ms. Wonderful. No fear of falling asleep after exhibit one with her on your side.

So you’re locked & loaded, now it’s go time. Once you’ve hit them all up, which we’re sure you will, give us the full scoop. Which museum has the best exhibits? And, topping the list of importance for this month, at least, which has the most popping off AC? Your homework: get baked and report back.
