At District Cannabis, we believe freedom is non-negotiable – the freedom to love who you love, be who you are, and blaze how you want. Pride Month isn’t just a celebration; it’s a reminder of the fight for freedom that’s still happening every day.
Pride started as a protest. And while the parades today are filled with glitter, joy, and unapologetic self-expression, the roots run deep. LGBTQ+ communities have always been on the front lines of equality, of health, and of cannabis legalization.
In fact, if you love legal weed, you can thank the queer community. Activists like Dennis Peron helped legalize medical cannabis during the AIDS crisis in San Francisco.Â
And Dennis wasn’t alone. The fight for medical access was led by a chorus of queer voices who refused to be silenced. People like Brownie Mary, who handed out cannabis brownies to AIDS patients until she was arrested three times. Or the Castro Cannabis Buyers Club, the first dispensary in the country, born in defiance, operated by and for the LGBTQ+ community. Or Paul Scott, an activist who made sure the conversation around cannabis included people of color living with HIV. These weren’t just cannabis advocates; they were caregivers, rule breakers, and movement builders. They didn’t just make history. They made this possible.
We believe Pride is about showing up for your community, your values, and those who don’t yet have a seat at the table.
Puff For Pride
All month long at our Hagerstown store, look for DC’s Berry Payton Pre-Roll 2-pack and at our Union Market flagship location, look for Pave Pre-Packaged 14g flower. When you grab either of these products, you’ll get a special Pride sticker, and we’ll donate a portion of proceeds to the Trevor Project.
It’s our way of celebrating the community that’s been showing up long before it was cool to care.

This Month, and Every Month
We don’t wave the flag for one month and disappear the next. At DC, we fight for real freedom year-round. The freedom to choose. The freedom to love. The freedom to light up without judgment.
Because when you show up as yourself, unapologetically, you’re living the spirit of Pride. So this Pride (and every month after), remember:
A vote for love is a vote for freedom.Â
